In June, 2016, the Museum opened its Children's section, located in the basement of the Old Mill building. The Children's Museum tells the story of the Appalachian Trail for young people.  



A thoughtful hike along our mini-Appalachian Trail will introduce you to onion-tasting RAMPS, an imaginary mountain protector PAMOLA, the black mud of VERMONT, and so much more!​



Visitors can imagine what it is like to hike the A.T., going either northbound or southbound.  There is a display panel for each of the fourteen states on the A.T., with interesting and fun facts about that state.

Create amazing art and family memories in a restored, historic 19th century tailor shop located in the heart of downtown Carlisle! We have convenient metered curbside parking, as well as our own free parking lot behind the building. Create-A-Palooza features artistic activities for all ages, including pottery glaze fired on our on site kilns, or make & take options, hand building clay, canvas painting and more art programs. Average price is $15-$30 with items lower and higher. All prices are all-inclusive - meaning no sitting fees, firing fees, or any other add-on charges. We're a family business, and we hope that you to feel at home while visiting our studio!

Creekside is the ultimate outdoor family fun center! We have an 18-hole miniature golf course, a Toptracer Powered Driving Range featuring 9 covered bays with monitors, a Full-Service Creek Floats experience down the Yellow Breeches, & our Creekside Grill.



Our Toptracer Driving Range and Creekside Grill operate year-round, while our Miniature golf and floats operate seasonally.

The Cumberland County Historical Society offers several family friendly activities. Our award winning museum provides a myriad opportunities to discover the multi-faceted history of Cumberland County with interactive exhibits. There are free, age appropriate, scanvenager hunts, curated to guide children through the museum, while discovering relevant historical artifacts. Upon completion, participants can pick a reward from the treasure chest at the reception desk.

Step inside a massive boxcar that now hauls history! The Conrail Museum tells the story of the famous “big blue” railroad that had a big impact on the Cumberland Valley and beyond. Kids of all ages can climb up into a vintage locomotive simulator and push the buttons and throw the levers used to train engineers.


The Cumberland Valley Railroad Museum features artifacts representing the histories of the Cumberland Valley, Penn Central, and Conrail Railroads and exhibits that depict the ways in which these railroads affected the region.

The Rail Trail Runs through 16 miles of woods and farmland, where visitors can enjoy walking, jogging, bicycling, horseback riding, birdwatching and other non-motorized recreational uses. Check our website for a route map. The Shippensburg Trailhead features an outdoor sculpture walk and railroad artifacts. Enjoy food trucks, local beer, wine, crafts, and live music at Ship First Fridays- the first Fridays between April and October from 4:30-8 pm.

The U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center (USAHEC) Army Heritage Trail, located at 950 Soldiers Drive, Carlisle, PA offers a one-mile outdoor museum that includes a U.S. Army designed WWII Obstacle Course, French and Indian Way Waystation, WWI Allied Trench, Civil War Winter Cabins, a WWII Induction center with a Mess Hall, and Barracks, and much much more. USAHEC is a location of choice for family outings and an enriched learning experience for all ages. Our trail is open from dawn to dusk and is pet friendly.

Beautifully landscaped, 18 hole Miniature Golf Course is located adjacent to the Beach House on the North end of City Island. Challenging style of play Includes water hazards, sloping greens, water falls and a 60 foot walking bridge that spans two scenic bluffs. The beauty of the gentle Susquehanna River, cool summer breezes, and breathtaking sunsets will give visitors to Water Golf one of the most scenic rounds of miniature golf they have ever experienced. The Championship-style course will delight young and old alike. Both experienced golfers and novices will find each hole unique, fun-filled and exciting.
